Traits of a good teacher
Patience: Patience is a virtue that all teachers must have. This is because you need it while passing knowledge especially to children. If you are not patient, then you will get worked up easily and become very irritable. You need to take your time and explain the same thing in different ways so that everyone you are teaching can understand. And when a student takes longer than usual to grasp simple concepts, then you need to be patient enough with them in order to lead them, work with them until they understand.
Kindness: if you came across an unkind teacher, you probably would not want to meet them again. It has gone on record that there are students who drop their courses simply because the teacher was unkind to them and at the same time, there are those who enrolled for a course they had no interest in simply because the teacher was kind. Learning becomes easy and fun when the teacher is kind. Students cooperate making the learning environment conducive.
Keen: a teacher needs to be keen in order to asses a situation promptly. Imagine a classroom situation whereby students start making funny sounds all of a sudden. If you are not keen enough, you may not know what prompted that behaviour and therefore, you would have a really hard time getting the students back to concentrate on the lesson. A teacher also needs to be keen in order to understand the needs of each student and how best they learn and behave in different situations.
Wisdom: a teacher who is not wise can only bring disgrace upon themselves. Students are keen and are very sharp. They can easily asses a situation and try their teacher just to see what they are going to do about the situation. If the teacher is unwise, then they can, in several occasions, fall into the students traps. In most cases, they are pranks pulled on them just to prove how inadequate they are in a certain area. A teacher also needs to be wise because no one wants to be taught by an unwise teacher. Even though the teacher might possess several university degree, masters’ degrees or even PhD, they may be, unfortunately, unwise. Wisdom does not equate knowledge.
