Stages of Culture Shock
Strange things people say: time has run!
The relationship between mood and time; Mood + Time = Culture
Shock
If you don’t believe me, it is in the diagram above. Pure
science. So the more time you have, the more shocked you get. But there is hope
for recovery, eventually, the curve stays up.
There are four stages of culture shock adjustment:
The honeymoon stage; everything is good and new and nice and
it’s good to have to experience something other than what you are used to. Adding
spice to your life.
The hostility stage; honeymoon is over. You now get anxiety, frustrated,
angry, afraid and on a worst case scenario, depression.
The Integration / acceptance stage; this is the stage where
you are getting over your anger, fears, frustration and learning to cope with
the changes around you.
The Home stage; this is the stage where you feel at home. You
have learnt the different cultures and you are comfortably living with your
own. Other external factors no longer bother you.
