Coca Cola: what is does to your body in 60 minutes
You love Coca-Cola, you take it
when you are thirsty, with meals, or occasionally. If you knew what it does to
your body just one hour after consumption, you wouldn’t love it so much anymore. An
Indian scientist, Niraj Naik, recently revealed the harmful effect coke has on
the body.
First 10 minutes
Your system takes in 10 teaspoons
of sugar. This is 100% of your daily recommended intake. Usually, you would
vomit from the overwhelming sweetness. Instead, phosphoric acid cuts the
flavour allowing you to keep it down.
20 minutes in
Your blood sugar spurs, causing
an insulin burst. Your liver, not wasting any time, responds to this by turning
any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. At this point, there’s plenty of
sugar in your body.
40 minutes in
The body completes the absorption
of caffeine. Your blood pressure rises, your pupils dilate, subsequently, your liver
dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. You will not be drowsy since the
adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked.
45 minutes in
Your body ups your dopamine
production. This causes stimulation of the pleasure centres of your brain just
the same way heroin works.
60 minutes in
The phosphoric acid binds zinc, calcium
and magnesium in your lower intestine and further boosting metabolism. The high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners
compound this and also increase the urinary excretion of calcium.
After 60 minutes
It’s time for the caffeine's
diuretic properties come take part by making you ease yourself. For sure, you
will now evacuate the bonded magnesium, calcium and zinc that were directed to
your bones as well as the water, sodium and electrolyte. You will start to have
a sugar crash as the rave inside you dies down. It wouldn’t be a surprise if
you become irritable and/or sluggish. By this time, you have also already pissed
away all the water that was in the Coke. And it took with it the valuable
nutrients your body really needs for hydrating your system as well as building
string teeth and bones.
A quote from Naik from the Renegade Pharmacist website, "Something that I noticed when working as a pharmacist was why people would still gain weight even though they were following a strict low fat diet recommended to them by their doctor. This made me question whether it is really the 'fat' that causes us to gain unhealthy weight.
After seeing so many people suffering from obesity related diseases like heart disease, diabetes and the side effects of the medication they were taking, I was strongly motivated to research what actually causes people to become obese, it clearly was not just the fat they were eating! In many cases I asked people to just stop their consumption of fizzy drinks like Coca Cola and instead swap it with either plain water, or add some freshly squeezed lemon for flavor.
Green tea is also a great alternative, and it is one of my personal favorites because it contains alpha wave stimulating theanine that also double serves as an antidote to the harmful effects of caffeine."
Yeap, I believe you!
