Natural childbirth: Good idea or bad idea

Natural child birth is definitely a good idea. In fact, it is the best idea. Most first time mothers shy away from natural childbirth citing all sorts of excuses for it. When you study closely, you will realise it is fear that clouds their mind when they think of natural child birth. Going by other mother’s experiences, they tend to fear having complications during delivery while the majority are simply afraid of experiencing the excruciating pain associated with labour.

Different people interpret natural childbirth in different ways. There are those who understand it to be vaginal birth, others describe it as birth with no medications for pain while others say it is birth without intervention or pain relief medication. Whichever your understanding for it may be, all the three descriptions and understandings made up here form the natural way of giving birth. Although intervention may be necessary in case the mother or the child is in danger.

This method is becoming more and more popular. This is because people are realising the benefits of natural delivery and the dangers of using medicated delivery methods. Every mother’s experience is unique and different from the other. Even the same mother who delivers more than once will have a different experience for each pregnancy. Some of these benefits include faster labour and delivery, faster healing, baby’s brain does not suffer from the damage of drugs or forceps, baby is more alert, and so forth.

Since the mother is conscious and fully participate in the birthing process, they became empowered and motivated. Once they deliver, they have a greater time with their child’s first encounter with the world. The first moments of their baby’s life brings a wonderful experience to them. If they however opt for medicated childbirth, they may miss this opportunity which is cherished by all mothers.  Someone else will enjoy their baby while they recover.

Natural delivery may be painful but the pain only lasts for as long as the birthing process. Thereafter, a mother is filled with joy and none of them can remember the labour pain they felt. Within a few hours, this mother can resume her normal lifestyle. They just need to rest for two weeks ensuring they do not do heavy work and they will completely heal. They can go about their normal life as if they had not delivered something medical delivery does not allow. The shortest period one can take to heal when they have had a medical delivery is six weeks.

Mothers who deliver naturally do not have to be reclined in case of spinal and are not groggy in case of anaesthesia. As a result, they become more connected to their new born baby. They are empowered and motivated knowing they did not need help while delivering. Thus, they care better for their babies.
