President of United States of America coming to my village-Kogelo
Haters are
going to hate, Players are going to play but we all know, Obama is coming to
town. Kogelo, our home land, the land of our ancestors; Welcome home our president,
the president of the United states of America, is coming to my back yard.
There is
each and every opportunity for everyone to do absolutely anything and
everything during this visit by the president of United states to our land;
Those who want to make good business have endless opportunities, Those who want
to grow in the politics have a great chance, Those who want to hate have all
the reasons to, those who are cluesless have absolutely no clue, It’s all about
what you want to do and how you look at it.
Life
change for my brothers and sisters back in the village; This is how I am
related to Obama, I am a typical Luo and so Obama is my relative by default.
That is all you need to know. Let's forget his half-brother Malik who is upset
since Obama did not personally communicate to him that he would be coming
home... Malik my brother, we all got this news the same way, don't worry, it’s
nothing personal, you know our brother from another mother is now the president
of the United States of America and other people have been employed to handle
his communications... It’s just protocol. Try and understand his situation. So
even if he called you personally, then it could have been his PA personally
calling you personally. Take heart jathurwa. But I have a question for you, if
the President of the United States of America called you personally and told
you that he is coming home soon, what could you have done about it? My guess is
nothing. Except for the bragging rights that Obama called you personally about
his coming.
To makoro
Obama biro ni, be osegedo? To be en gi simba? Kose obiro kwayo kar nindo? I can’t help but wonder... who
has the answers to these questions? An to anya gedo ne ageda as long as ni o
oro dollar! (Now that Obama is coming, has he built his home? (This is
a tradition in our Luo culture.) Or is he going to ask for a place to sleep? I
do not have a problem building for him as long as he sends me some dollars! )
In
preparation for Obama’s coming, we are going to hold a feast. Economy has been
bad lately for us so instead of slaughtering a very fat cow, we are going to
slaughter the very small fish called omena. This is very delicious and makes
really nice ‘kado’ (soup). So even if he will not make it home,
we shall still feast in his absence. And this feast will last for decades to
come. And we shall tell of how close he came to home.
